I don’t really love winter, but I do love snow, and there is something in particular about winter’s first snowfall that stirs something in my heart that is at once quiet and nostalgic and happy and sad. It moves me like music.
I was driving home from a portrait session the day after Christmas (which I will have to blog soon), and the sun was almost completely set. The light falling across the snowy landscape was really breathtaking. I was on the phone and on my way somewhere, and I actually noticed this beautiful winter farm scene and kept driving, but had that nagging photographer’s voice in my gut telling me I had to stop and do some shooting for myself. I always love working with my clients to capture their family, their romance, their wedding day… but I hope I never get so caught up in my busy life that I don’t turn the car around to get back to the reasons I started to love photography in the first place. Here are just a few images from this winter’s first snowfall.
